So I mentioned in my November TBR post at the beginning of the week that I was participating in National Novel Writing Month again. I tried last year and managed to get to 30,000 words before loosing my steam.
Last year I was continuing a novel that I had\have been writing for just over four years now (Remember, remember the 5th of November) but this year I have decided that it is time to try writing something completely different. Below is a list of all the things different to the aforementioned book:
Genre – Romance
I was writing a fantasy and I have focused on fantasy\romance fiction for a long time but I am shaking it up by writing a pure romance novel set in the real world (or as real as I want to make it).
Tense – Third Person
Normally I write in first person so it will be interesting to see if I can manage to write a book in third person. I’ve only wrote a little (as I write this) and it is a very big change. I have to catch myself from slipping back into first person. Thank goodness for editing!
Planning
Yeah, I didn’t plan this at all. I have a few character outlines to go by to make my life a little easier but aside from that I am writing this completely off the top of my head. I have an idea of where the story is going but how the characters get to that point is beyond me at this point in time. It will be interesting to see where the story and characters take me and if we end up at the point that i want them to be at. If they don’t then I’m curious to see where they’ll go.
Setting
As I said I’m setting this in the real world, my last story was in a world of my own creation so again it will be another challenge to work with real life places and ordinary people.
I’m basing this story in America. I’ve only ever been to Orlando, Florida so I need to research quite a lot, Geography research here I come!
So that’s all I’m going to say about the actual story at this point because I don’t want to give away the plot or what I’m writing about too much. I would love it if I could finish the first draft this month but I have a bad habit of re-reading it and editing it instead of actually writing so I’m hoping to shake this habit at some point this month.
Now on to the actual updates!
