March Book Haul

Wow I need to control my book buying! I brought way too much manga this month jeez!

I think I’ll start this off by straying from the usual books and show you some new Pop Funk figures I brought for my shelves as a nice change from all the books and links.

SAM_1977

I brought Sirius when I realised it was an option. Sirius is one of my favourite Harry Potter characters and I own the most memorabilia dedicated to him so buying this was a must.

I brought Vegeta on Tuesday (29th) when I went shopping. I saw him in the window and I couldn’t resist him, he’s so cute!

Okay. Enough about the figures and on to the actual books. I brought a total of fourteen books this month and I’m a little disgusted with myself but I don’t regret it. I’ve actually mostly read all of them too. (I just counted. I’ve read 9 of them.)

These aren’t in any particular order, I can’t be bothered to go look up what order I brought them in.

Animal Crossing: Wild World Game Guide

I made an impulsive buy a few weeks ago and got the game. I brought this because I remembered that there were patterns that I could make in the game that were in this book. Sad I know.

Death Note, Black Editions 1, 2 & 3 by Tsugumi Ohba, Takeshi Obata (Illustrator) & Translated by Alexis Kirsch

I feel as if I have talked about this countless times in the past month so I won’t go into the details here. These books each have two editions of the manga in them so technically these are six volumes.

FullMetal Alchemist 3-in-1 Volume 2 by Hiromu Arakawa

Another impulse buy but when I saw it in Waterstones I couldn’t resist it. I read the first book in the series last year but didn’t continue reading. Something must have distracted me. I loved the anime though so I want to carry on reading the manga.

Bleach 3-in-1 Volume 1 by Tite Kubo

I’ve read this book before but I borrowed it off of a friend and now that I am watching the anime I wanted to re-read it and start collecting the books.

Yeah. I’ve brought more than this but they haven’t come yet so they’re not included. I’m still loving this manga series and I have almost caught up to the books now. Book 15 comes out in May.

Kindred Spirits by Rainbow Rowell

I don’t actually know what this short story is about but I saw it in the shop and saw that it was only £1 so I picked it up to read when I’m in a bit of a slump.

Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare

I brought this just to add to my collection. I have been told that I can’t read this until I’ve finished reading the Infernal Devices so I need to wait until I’ve done that. It is such a pretty book though that I couldn’t resist it when I saw it…

SAM_1980 (2)Well these are all of the books that I brought in March. I’m sure my neighbours are getting sick of my parcels being delivered to them when I’m at work but what can you do? I am thinking of going on a book buying ban soon so hopefully this month my book haul won’t be as big.

Have you read any of these books? What do you think I should read first?

Until Next Time,

March Reading Wrap-Up

March was a good reading month for me having read ten books. Most of them (again) being manga but I did manage to read three full length books this month too. Two of which were on my list of books to read in 2016.

These are in order of when I read them.

Death Note V1

Death Note: Black Edition, Vol. 1 by Tsugumi Ohba, Taskeshi Obata (Illustrator) & Translated by Tetsuichiro Miyaki

After watching the anime in the entirety of two days I fell in love with it and needed to read the manga to see if there were any differences. So far it is mostly the same. The only downside is that one of my favourite scenes isn’t in the manga.

memoirs of a geisha

Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden

I was a little disappointed with this book. The film being one of my favourite films I was expecting to love the book too but it was only a three stars from me.

Running with my theme of last month I’m continuing to read the Blue Exorcist manga and I’m really enjoying it. I only have a few left to read now until I have caught up with the story and books.

Vicious

Vicious by V.E. Schwab

I’m so glad I gave V.E. Schwab another chance. I loved this book. It wasn’t the best book in the world and there were some nitpicky things that I could talk about but overall it was a really good story. I am looking forward to the recently announced sequel.

SAM_1971Overall it was an easy reading month for me. I’m going to try and start reading more novels and series instead of so much manga but looking at my book haul I don’t think it’ll happen. Especially considering it is CampNaNoWriMo this month so I’ll be busy with that too!

I hope your month was a good one and that you read some great books.

Book Shelf Tour #2 – The Vampire Shelf

SAM_1969 (2)Another week another shelf to look at. This week we’re looking at what I like to call my ‘Vampire Shelf’. This shelf holds my big YA Vampire series and not much else.

This shelf stands out as the only colour coordinated shelf with all of the books being black.

Shelf Two – ‘The Vampire Shelf’

SAM_1948-001

Dead Girls Dance (The Morganville Vampires #2)

Midnight Alley (#3)

Feast of Fools (#4)

Lord of Misrule (#5)

Carpe Corpus (#6)

Fade Out (#7)

Kiss of Death (#8)

Ghost Town (#9)

Bite Club (#10)

Last Breath (#11)

Black Dawn (#12)

by Rachel Caine

I haven’t read all of these and I don’t even own all of these yet. I plan to try re-reading the series and finishing it off at some point this year but it isn’t at the top of my list just yet. If you’re wondering where book 1 is, it is on my TBR shelf which you’ll see later on.

BST S2 1.png

Divergent by Veronica Roth

Eragon by Christopher Paolini

Divine by Mistake

Divine by Choice

Divine by Blood

 by P.C. Cast

Personally I didn’t like the Divine books but it’s my sisters favourite book series so I can’t get rid of them. They’re only on this shelf because they are grouped together by author.

BST S2 2.png

Goddess of Legend by P.C. Cast

Destined (House of Night #9)

Marked (#1)

Betrayed (#2)

Chosen (#3)

Untamed (#4)

Hunted (#5)

Tempted (#6)

Burned (#7)

Awakened (#8)

by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast

Now before you freak out telling me that these are in the wrong order, I know. Believe me I know. This was the only way to have them together and make any sort of sense or look good. If you look at the picture you can see that Destined, Marked and Betrayed are all the UK paperback, then you move on to Chosen and Untamed which are the US paperbacks (which I hate). Moving along the rest are hard cover because I brought them when they first came out. If I put Destined where it is meant to go, at the end, then it would look odd and even more disjointed than it already does.

Can you tell that I don’t like the look of these books on my shelf? 🙂

Well that was nice and short wasn’t it. Next week will have a little more variety in the books I’ll be showing you so stay tuned for that.

Until Next Time,

Book Shelf Tour #1

SAM_1969 (2)I’ve been wanting to do a bookshelf tour for quite a while but I haven’t seen many on here so it put me off a little but thinking about it if I want to do it then I should just go ahead and do it!

I have three bookshelves in my bedroom so I will be doing these separately, shelf by shelf so it will be a weekly feature. Once I have finished I will create a page and combine them all together for easy viewing.

I am going to start off with my main and oldest bookshelf. I apologise if some of the images are wonky and\or dark, it is a hard bookshelf to take pictures of.

The Bottom Shelf

I have a thing where my bottom shelves are either packed full of ugly books, books I don’t want to see or books I have no where else to put. As a result my bookshelf can sometimes be a little top heavy. I like being able to see my books!

SAM_1949 (2)

This isn’t the best picture so you can’t actually see all of the books but trust me you aren’t missing out on them. (Ignore the worm looking thing, it is Nagini from my Voldemort figurine.)

From left to right here is a list.

BSTour Shelf 1.png

Fifty Shades Freed

Fifty Shades Darker by E.L. James

The Fifty Shades books are actually my Mum’s. I’ve read the first one and rated it two stars and I don’t have any intentions to read the next two any time soon but she had me get them out from under my bed saying that she wanted to re-read them. She still hasn’t got around to it yet…

The Heir of Night by Helen Lowe

These are all my sisters books and fun fact, annoying to me, my sister put the Hunter Kiss series out of order on my shelf and I didn’t notice until after I took the pictures. I don’t actually know what these are about but I’m including them anyway.

BST S1 6.png

Grave Sight (Harper Connelly #1)

Grave Surprise (#2)

An Ice Cold Grave (#3) by Charlaine Harris

Shadow Fall by Seressia Glass

… and she did the same with these!

How to Train your Dragon by Cressida Cowell

Incarnate by Jodi Medows

Incarnate was a complete cover buy for me and I still haven’t read it. I feel so guilty about that so it has been shoved on the bottom shelf. How to Train Your Dragon is down there because it was bumped down by another book.

Well that is my bottom shelf! I hope you liked this look at my bookshelf and come back to see the next shelf next week.

TTT – Ten Books On My Spring TBR

TTT

This week we were given the topic of talking about ten books that are on our reading list for the season of Spring. I must admit I was quite happy with this topic because I just recently decided to follow my 2016 TBR list in order, or close enough but there are a few books I plan to read that are not on that list. Here is my chance to talk about them or at least mention them.

If you’re interested in joining in with us then head on over to Broke and Bookish for the details 🙂

NUMBER 1

Vicious

Vicious by V.E. Schwab (CURRENTLY READING)

This book is the next book on my books to read this year so I thought to myself that there was no reason to not read this and I have heard nothing but good things about it. I’m going into this book mostly blind so I don’t really know what to expect.

NUMBER 2, 3, 4 & 5

Death Note.png

Death Note, Black Edition Volume 3 (CURRENTLY READING)

Death Note, Black Edition Volume 4

Death Note, Black Edition Volume 5

Death Note, Black Edition Volume 6

by Tsugumi Ohba, Takeshi Obata (Illustrator), Pookie Rolf (Translator) & Alexis Kirsch (Translator)

I’m currently reading Volume Two right now (13th) so I might be finished with it by the time this is published so I haven’t included it seeing as it isn’t Spring quite yet. Nevertheless I want to continue collecting these books and finish reading them. I watched the anime last week, week before, and immediately fell in love with it. I don’t know why I haven’t watched it sooner as I’ve known about it for years. I’ve heard that the manga finishes a little differently than the anime so it’ll be interesting to see if that’s true.

NUMBER 6

Battle Royale

Battle Royale by Koushun Takami & Nathan Collins (Translator)

I don’t know if I am going to start this book from the beginning again or just carry on from where my bookmark still is. I remember the film pretty well so I don’t think I’ll be too lost but maybe I should re-watch it before hand just to get my facts right in my head. It has been about a year since I last tried reading it…

NUMBERS 7, 8 & 9

Blue Exorcist Spring 2016.png

Blue Exorcist Volume 9

Blue Exorcist Volume 10

Blue Exorcist Volume 11

by Kazue Kato

Still loving this series and I can’t wait to continue reading. I am catching up with the books they have released now so I only have a few more books to collect.

NUMBER 10

carry on

Carry On by Rainbow Rowell

I put this on here because it seems to be a rather light hearted book and I thought I needed at least one book on here that isn’t too action packed. I needed at least one YA book on here after all 🙂

Well that was a nice short list. This year has been all about manga for me so far. I’ve only read a few books and managed to finish one series off. What books I have been reading though are some books that I have been wanting to read for quite a while so I’m pretty happy with that. For example I finally got around to reading Memoirs of a Geisha which has been on my TBR shelf for three years!

Have you read any of these books? Any you think I should get to ASAP?

As always I’d love to see your TTT posts, I’m interested to see what kind of books you’ll be reading this Spring so feel free to link it in the comments.

Until Next Time,

TTT – Characters Everyone Loves But I Just Don’t Get

TTTRight well here we are again for another TTT. As always you can go over to the Broke and Bookish to see what TTT is and the next topics.

NUMBER 1

The Hunger Games

Katniss EverdeenThe Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Katniss just seems very dull to me. She acts like she doesn’t care about things. Maybe this is because of the films and my dislike of the third book but I just can’t see myself reading the Hunger Games books again any time soon. (Although talking about them is making me curious. I haven’t read them in a long time.)

NUMBER 2

Harry Potter Series

Severus SnapeHarry Potter by J.K. Rowling

In have a love hate relationship with Snape. Sometimes I dislike him and other times I like him because of how complex a character he is. Snape is regularly jumping on and off this list.

NUMBER 3

Throne_of_Glass_UK

Chaol WestfallThrone of Glass Series by Sarah J. Maas

I don’t hate Chaol but up to the point I’m at (just read Crown of Midnight) I’m not liking him as much as everyone else seems to. I don’t know what it is about him but I’m still going to give him a chance.

NUMBER 4

ADSOM UK

Deliah “Lila” BardShades of Magic Series by V.E. Schwab

I’ve only read this once and it was a while ago but I remember not liking Lila. She wasn’t fleshed out as a character and I had trouble reading about her when I know so little about her. Hopefully in the second book – A Gathering of Shadows – we get to know more about her.

NUMBER 5

Storm Glass

Opal CowanGlass Series by Maria V. Snyder

Opal is very self-centred and it get old very fast. She is so obsessed with her own problems she forgets that there are other people with their own problems around her. She is too self absorbed for her own good. We do however see her grow as a character as the books progress and I like her in the third – and last – book in the series, Spy Glass.

For now these are all of the characters I can remember that I don’t like. I thought about putting Cath from Fangirl in but it isn’t the character I have an issue with, I think it is the book in general so I decided not to include her. (If you’re curious here is my mini review)

Do you agree with me on any of these? I’d like to know 🙂

As always feel free to leave a link to your TTT in the comments.

Until next time,

My To Be Read List 2016

2016 TBR

At the beginning of every year, for the past three years, I have written a list of books I want\need to read in that year. This list is not something I am strict about but it is a goal I want to strive towards and if I manage to read many of the books then great!

It never occurred to me until yesterday that you may be interested in what these books are and how my progress is.

Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden (CURRENTLY READING)

Vicious by V.E. Schwab

Battle Royale by Koushun Takami & Translated by Nathan Collins

Assassins Apprentice by Robin Hobb

The Colour of Magic by Terry Pratchett

Night Study by Maria V. Snyder

House of Night by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast

House of Night

Now I want to re-read the House of Night series because I remember that I loved it when I was in High School and I couldn’t wait until the next book in the series was released. It has been years since I last tried reading this and I have never finished the series. It’ll be interesting to see if I still like it as much as I did back then.

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

I started reading this series a few years ago and I was enjoying it and I have even gone and brought more of the books but I only read up to the second book and then stopped. I want to try finishing the series this year.

Morganville Vampires by Rachel Caine

Morganville Vampires

Again when I was in High School I loved this series but I never finished it because it was so long. I own most of the books and I would like to see how the series finished.

Attack on Titan by Hajime Isayama & Translated by Sheldon Drzka

Girl Online: On Tour by Zoe Sugg

Carry On by Rainbow Rowell

The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare

The Mortal Instruments 1-3.png

I have crossed this out now because I recently finished reading the series and boy am I glad I did. I think I had so much trouble carrying on with this series because I had read the first three books so many times I know them like the back of my hand. Once I got on to the books I hadn’t read before I fell in love with the series and world again and I ploughed through them. I think City of Lost Souls is now my favourite in the series.

The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare

I tried to carry on my pattern after finishing The Mortal Instruments and continue with reading The Infernal Devices but after struggling through the first book I picked up the second but I could feel a reading slump coming on and had to put it down and read something else.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan

I have slowly been working my way through these books and I am more than half-way but I just haven’t carried on yet. I have no excuse, I even own all the books.

Are any of these books on your list? Any that you think I should get a move on with reading?

I’m hoping to at least finish one of the longer series of books but it won’t be the end of the world if I don’t. I hope you liked this post and,

Until next time,

Tori x
