My Most Anticipated Releases of 2016

I’m mainly writing this list\post so that I can keep track of some of the new books I buy this year. It will be interesting to see which ones I buy and which ones I put on the back burner for another time.

Another reason is that I miss writing on here and making lists of books. I want to try and get back into the groove of blogging soon.

Some of these books I will be getting as soon as they come out (two have been pre-ordered) and some of them I only have an interest in and might buy them at some point in the future but won’t put on my priority list.

NUMBER 1

Night Study UK Cover

Night Study (Soulfinders #2) by Maria V. Snyder

UK Release – February 25th 2016 by Mira INK (Pre-Ordered)

US Release – January 26th 2016 by Mira

I won’t put a synopsis on this one simply because it is a sequel to several books so it would contain a lot of spoilers but I can tell you that the series begins with the book Poison Study, this is a follow up series set after the first three books.

I can’t wait to carry on reading this series, especially after the bomb-shell that was dropped at the end of Shadow Study!

I have previously done an interview with Maria V. Snyder last year a few months after the first book in this follow up series, Shadow Study, was released.

NUMBER 2

A Gathering of Shadows

A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab

UK Release – February 23rd 2016 by Titan Books

US Release – ” ” by Tor

Another sequel but this time to a series I wasn’t completely sold on. I read A Darker Shade of Magic last year (Review) but I had a few problems with it. I’m hoping to read more of Victoria Schwab this year to see if it was just that book that didn’t agree with me. I still want to continue reading the series though so this book is here on this list.

NUMBER 3

Haikyu!! Volume 1 (English Translation) by Haruichi Furudate (No cover yet)

Released – 5th July 2016 by by VIZ Media LLC (Pre-Ordered)

A chance event triggered Shouyou Hinata’s love for volleyball. His club had no members, but somehow persevered and finally made it into its very first and final regular match of middle school, where it was steamrolled by Tobio Kageyama, a superstar player known as “King of the Court.”

Vowing revenge, Hinata applied to the Karasuno High School volleyball club… only to come face-to-face with his hated rival, Kageyama! (Via Goodreads)

Now if you’ve ever read any of my anime posts you’ll know that this is my favourite anime at the moment. I have read most of what has been released in fan translations online.

This is the first time that they are publishing this manga in English as before they had – to my knowledge – only published it in Japanese and French.

If you haven’t watched the anime then you seriously need to get on that! 😉

NUMBER 4

This Savage Song

This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab

UK Release – June 7th 2016 by Titan Books

US Release – ” ” by Greenwillow Books

NOTE: Not sure if the cover is going to be the same in both countries yet

The city of Verity has been overrun with monsters, born from the worst of human evil. In North Verity, the Corsai and the Malchai run free. Under the rule of Callum Harker, the monsters kill any human who has not paid for protection. In the South, Henry Flynn hunts the monsters who cross the border into his territory, aided by the most dangerous and darkest monsters of them all—the Sunai, dark creatures who use music to steal their victim’s souls.

As one of only three Sunai in existence, August Flynn has always wanted to play a bigger role in the war between the north and the south. When the chance arises to keep an eye on Kate Harker, daughter of the leader of North Verity, August jumps on it.
When Kate discovers August’s secret, the pair find themselves running for their lives and battling monsters from both sides of the wall. As the city dissolves into chaos, it’s up to them to foster a peace between monsters and humans. (Via Goodreads)

I don’t know much about this book but after following Victoria on Twitter (@veschwab) and seeing the writing process it has made me want to read it. I respect her as a person and as a writer and I would love to read more of her books.

NUMBER 5

Yona of the Dawn 1

Yona of the Dawn Volume 1 by Mizuho Kusanagi

Released – 2nd August 2016 by VIZ Media LLC

Princess Yona lives an ideal life as the only princess of her kingdom. Doted on by her father, the king, and protected by her faithful guard Hak, she cherishes the time spent with the man she loves, Soo-won. But everything changes on her 16th birthday when she witnesses her father’s murder! (Via Goodreads)

I recently watched the anime for this and loved it. I haven’t read the manga yet and plan to wait until this comes out. This will make a nice birthday present to myself as it comes out on the day.

NUMBER 6

Lady Midnight

Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare

UK Release – March 8th 2016 by Simon & Schuster Children’s UK

US Release – ” ” by Margaret K. McElderry Books

Raised in the Los Angeles Institute with the Blackthorn family, Emma is paired as a parabatai with her best friend, Julian Blackthorn. A series of murders in the city catch her attention — they seem to have the same characteristics as the deaths of her parents. Could the murderer be the same person? And her attention isn’t the only one caught: someone has been murdering Downworlders as well. The Fair Folk make a deal with the Institute: if the Blackthorns and Emma will investigate the killings, they’ll return Mark Blackthorn to his home. The catch: they have only two weeks to find the killers. Otherwise it’s open war between faeries and Nephilim.

The Shadowhunters of the Institute must race against time to catch the killers, even as they begin to suspect the involvement of those closest to them. At the same time, Emma is falling in love with the one person in the world she’s absolutely forbidden by Shadowhunter Law to love. Set against the glittering backdrop of present-day Los Angeles, Emma must learn to trust her head and her heart as she investigates a demonic plot that stretches from the warlock-run nightclubs of the Sunset Strip to the enchanted sea that pounds the beaches of Santa Monica. (Via Goodreads)

Can we just take a moment to look at that cover? *Sigh*

Anyway this is a ‘sequel’ series to the Mortal Instruments Series. I am currently in the process of reading the last three books for the first time and I am thoroughly enjoying them. (I’m on City of Heavenly Fire). I want to try and catch up with the books before picking this one up but I might just buy it early for the cover (no shame).

NUMBER 7

The Hidden Oracle (The Trials of Apollo Book 1)

The Hidden Oracle (The Trials of Apollo Book 1) by Rick Riordan

UK Release – May 3rd 2016 by Puffin

US Release – ” ” by Disney-Hyperion

How do you punish an immortal?

By making him human.

After angering his father Zeus, the god Apollo is cast down from Olympus. Weak and disorientated, he lands in New York City as a regular teenage boy. Now, without his godly powers, the four-thousand-year-old deity must learn to survive in the modern world until he can somehow find a way to regain Zeus’s favour.

But Apollo has many enemies – gods, monsters and mortals who would love to see the former Olympian permanently destroyed. Apollo needs help, and he can think of only one place to go . . . an enclave of modern demigods known as Camp Half-Blood. (Via Goodreads)

I have recently started reading The Percy Jackson series and I am loving it so far, I am interested in reading more of Rick Riordan’s writing and this book just sounds so intriguing.

For now those are the books that I have my eye on for the coming year. I was going to include Heartless, The Glittering Court and Kill The Boy Band too but I am only slightly interested in those and I’m not sure if I want to actually read them yet so I decided not to include them in the list.

What are your most anticipated releases this year? If you have a similar post feel free to leave a link in the comments and I’ll go and take a look 🙂 I love finding new books through them 😉

Until next time,

Tori x
